Quesnel Ringette Association News

News 2008-2009

Quesnel Ringette Association - July 2008 Newsletter

2007-2008 was another exceptional year for the QRA.

In April 2008, our Association received two very prestigious awards from the BC Ringette Association. Rob Stauffer was selected as Coach of the Year, which speaks to the commitment and quality of coaching present in Quesnel. Congratulations Rob, and thank you for all your hard work these past couple of years! AND the QRA was once again recognized as the Ringette Association of the Year as the top association in the province of BC.

All players, coaches, managers, parents and volunteers should be very proud to be recognized for this very prestigious award; your hard work and dedication was once again outstanding. Thank you!

C.) Equipment Swap and Sale

We have collected a large amount of good used (and some new) equipment including shoulder pads, shin pads, elbow pads, girdles/pants, gloves, neck guards, sticks and about 50 pairs of good quality used skates. Our goal with the Swap is simple: to keep equipment costs for our members (you!) as low as possible (and raise some money).

Due to the amount of equipment we have this year, we will hold the Swap on three dates.

The first date, two weeks before the start of Summer Camp, will be QRA only and the second two dates will be open to QRA and the general public (as we want all equipment to get used by kids!).

Dates are:

1.) Saturday August 9th QRA only: 224 Enemark Road North 9:00AM-3:00PM.

2.) Tuesday August 26th QRA & General Public: 3:00-7:00PM Twin Arenas (during Summer Camp).

3.) Central Registration Twin Arenas (date and time to be confirmed) Now is the time to clean out your Ringette bag! Donations accepted or we will pay a small amount (and we will pick up).

Please contact Lars Nordal at 747-2239. PLEASE PASS YOUR OLD GEAR ALONG. If you know of new members, please pass on the Swap information so they can attend. D.) Recruitment Drive: Free (Used) Skates for New Members To encourage new kids to register early for Ringette, QRA will be offering all new youth members free skates (assuming we have their size available). We are hopeful that our low registration fee, free skates and large selection of inexpensive used equipment will encourage more kids to try Ringette. Please let your friends and family know!!! (Note: we define ‘new’ as someone who was not registered with Quesnel Ringette for the 2007-2008 season!)

E.) 1st Fundraising Activity: Billy Barker Days Face Painting & Games - Denny’s Tent - July 18th 9:30-3:00

QRA needs players to volunteer for face painting and running the games at the Denny’s tent. In return, Denny’s makes a $300 donation to QRA. Lunch is provided by Dennys for all the kids who help. If your kids can help with a shift (and they can bring a friend!), please contact Lorraine Martell at 747-2828 or e-mail fundraising@quesnelringette.info.

The more help we have the better! If you have any questions, please contact any member of the QRA Executive (see Contact section on our website for contact numbers).

Have a great summer with family and friends!

Sincerely, Your Quesnel Ringette Executive

PS: Most of what you need to know is on our website which we are very diligent in keeping up to date – so take a minute now to bookmark: www.quesnelringette.info.

QRA earns circle of Successes

June 21, 2008 - Quesnel Observer

By - Observer Reporter - Benjamin Alldritt

Ringette is a sport that stresses teamwork, so it’s appropriate nobody will take credit for the handful of awards Quesnel Ringette Association has just won.

“It’s not just the coach,” Rob Stauffer said, after being named B.C. Ringette Association Community Coach of the Year. “It’s a fantastic group of assistant coaches and players. We all make it happen.”In addition to winning first place with last year’s Petite A squad and taking home bronze medals with this year’s Tween As, Stauffer has coached ringette at B.C. Winter Games and Western Canadian Championships. “It’s a fantastic experience,” he said. “It’s the very highest level of play for that age group.”

Quesnel’s Heather Campbell received two ringette scholarships for her post-secondary education and to cap it off, Quesnel was also tapped as Association of the Year.“I’m pretty proud,” vice-president Ron Richert said. “We have dedicated volunteers, dedicated parents and players all coming together,” he said.

Just back from the BCRA annual general meeting, Richert said the provincial body was very impressed with Quesnel’s organization, both on and off the ice. “It came up again and again,” he said. The association has more than 100 registered players. Both Stauffer and Richert said the community as a whole contributed to their haul of scholarships and awards. “It comes down to things like getting enough ice time,” Stauffer said. “Everyone wants those prime time slots and we’re lucky to get the support.” We’re a small community,” he continued. “But we can compete – and win – against cities with 450,000, even a million people,” Stauffer said.
